The internet, for example, is very good at letting us know how hilariously stupid important smart people are. Did you know that Peggy Noonan is an important smart person, the 13th most important smart person there is in America? Not hard to believe when you consider her way with words, e.g. "My study group is about being a person who thinks things and believes them and turns them into words that convey thoughts and feelings."
Did you also know that Peggy Noonan is, as per our many fruitful prior posts, a lover of civility? It almost seems like overpaid, over-respected opinion writers are drawn to civility, like moths to a flame. Could there possibly be a connection between weak, meandering, poorly thought out opinions and a love of genteel style over actual morally appropriate substance? It would, I feel, be irresponsible to speculate.
What I take exception to here is the blatant heteronormativity that inspires your qualification of fisting as 'bad.'
ReplyDeleteI don't know. I could almost see fisting as the great equalizer in the often-incompatible discussion of hetero-vs-homo sexual sex. It doesn't matter whether the fist belongs to Lucy or Charles, or whose and what sort of hole into which it is being inserted - fisting is not pleasant for anybody
ReplyDeleteexcept the guy paying 2.99 per day to watch it.
However, this post did illuminate how limiting the Peggy Noonan style is for getting to "real America." Who could hear tell of fists being thrust into "the body part involved in elimination" (Coruscating on Thin Ice, WSJ, 9/2009) without immediately fearing for their cybernetic laser-powered disintegrator arm?
At least, I believe this must be the case when the media system has so overwhelmingly submerged democracy that thousands of people can sustain viable, if lecherous, employment by using sound bites and quick clips to dismantle every person (regardless of party) who dares remove even single digits from their butthole.
See, Peggy, it wasn't so hard to say. Also, has anyone considered "monetizing" this blog?
